our history
In 1968, Luis Heredia left Argentina with just $100 in his wallet, bound for Los Angeles and the aerospace industry. With a background as a manual tool grinder, Luis started his job at Deutsch Company the very next day.
In 1977, Luis, Irma, and their children moved to Portland, Oregon. Seeing a rising need for quality tool resharpening, Luis seized the moment. With entrepreneurial spirit and expertise, he invested in a used manual machine, launching a garage workshop that laid the foundation for Almar Tools.
By 1980, Almar Tools was founded from a modest 500-square-foot building in Portland. Luis expanded operations, adding a second manual grinding machine, symbolizing his commitment to precision and quality. Known for meticulous craftsmanship, Almar Tools quickly gained renown in the Portland machining community.
Under Luis’s leadership through the 1980s and 1990s, Almar Tools expanded into automotive, medical, and electronics sectors while maintaining its dedication to craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
As technology evolved, Almar Tools integrated CNC grinding machines, enhancing productivity and precision without sacrificing quality. In the early 2000s, leadership transitioned to Luis’s sons, Alex and Marcelo, who expanded capabilities and diversified offerings, meeting evolving market demands.
In April 2024, Luis Heredia passed away, leaving a profound legacy. Today, Almar Tools stands as a testament to his enduring values of hard work, innovation, and integrity. From its humble garage beginnings to its current state-of-the-art facility, Almar Tools continues to deliver exceptional tooling solutions globally, empowering manufacturers across industries.
